Eradication of echinococcus multilocularis in Uppsala

To eradicate the presence of E.m. in the known infected area in and around the city of Uppsala by deworming red foxes in the area over several years, which is expected to break the chain of infection between foxes and small rodents. When the zoonotic parasite E.m. is established in a urban area, the risk of infection to humans increases, but since the area in Uppsala, according to the targeted surveillance carried out, currently appears to be well demarcated, it is considered possible to eradicate the infection and the zoonotic risk.
